Biography
Dr. Argyrios Tzamalis, MD, Dr.med, MA, FEBO, is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed his medical degree at the university in 2006 and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Basel in 2010. His clinical and academic training includes fellowships and honorary attachments in Greece, the UK, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, and Spain, with special expertise in corneal surgery, ocular surface disease, refractive surgery, and oculoplastics. Dr. Tzamalis has served as a corneal, adnexal, and oculoplastic fellow at internationally recognized centers including Moorfields Eye Hospital and Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Since 2025, he has been serving as Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at the 2nd Department of Ophthalmology, Papageorgiou General Hospital, Thessaloniki. His scientific work includes participation in multiple international clinical trials, more than 200 conference presentations, over 90 peer-reviewed publications, and several awards in ophthalmic research and surgery. He is also the inventor of a patented technique and instrument for corneal graft preparation in endothelial keratoplasty. Dr. Tzamalis is fluent in Greek, English, and German.
