Biography

Dr. Ourania Andreopoulou is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist and a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) at the Department of Medicine, University of Patras, Greece. She is affiliated with the Psychiatric Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine and provides clinical services at the University General Hospital of Patras (Rion), working across multiple medical specialties, including cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, dermatology, and intensive care. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Patras, where her doctoral research focused on the psychological impact on children whose parents suffer from chronic renal failure and undergo renal replacement therapy. Her clinical training includes Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ICATA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Group Psychotherapy based on the Irvin D. Yalom model, and psychoanalytic approaches. She has also completed advanced clinical training at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School Affiliate (USA). Her research interests include psychocardiology, diabetes-related psychological factors including fear of hypoglycemia, behavioral medicine, and the psychosocial aspects of chronic illness. She has contributed to the development and validation of psychometric instruments in Greek clinical populations and has an active research profile in chronic disease-related psychological adjustment. She has served as Chair of the Committee on Psychosocial Factors of the Hellenic Society of Atherosclerosis, contributing to the integration of psychological and behavioral dimensions into cardiovascular risk prevention and clinical practice. Her selected recent publications (2026) include work on evidence-based management of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) using GRADE methodology published in Pharmaceuticals (2026). Additional key contributions include research on clozapine plasma levels and adverse drug reactions published in Pharmaceuticals (2022), studies on fear of hypoglycemia in pediatric diabetes populations published in Hormones (2024) and Children (2023), and research on behavioral and emotional profiles in clinical populations published in Psychiatriki (2020). She also serves as a peer reviewer for several international scientific journals, including Current Psychology (Springer Nature), Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, BMC Primary Care, and Psychiatriki, and is an active member of major Greek scientific societies in cardiovascular prevention and atherosclerosis.
