Biography
Dr. Debanik Roy has nearly 35 years of research experience in the domain of Robotics, Automation, Artificial Intelligence & Intelligent Manufacturing Systems. With a track record of sound scholastic attainments since school & college education by securing state ranks within top30, Dr. Roy kept the saga up by earning Gold Medals, both at Bachelor of Engineering & Master of Technology curricula. Dr. Roy had an illustrious industrial exposure at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur and he was the principal technologist in realizing the maiden application of robotics in Indian steel industry (1995-1997). After his successful overseas research sojourn in Singapore & few places in Europe, Dr. Roy returned to India and got offer of research scientist position from both Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) & Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Govt. of India. Dr. Roy joined DAE in 1999 and took charge of research activities at the Robotics division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. Between Jan., 2009 to April, 2018, Dr. Roy headed the Engineering Science Advisory Committee of Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), DAE. After successful completion of the tenure at BRNS, Dr. Roy took up new R&D responsibility at the Division of Remote Handling & Robotics, BARC. Presently Dr. Roy is leading a research group in Sensor-instrumented Robotic Gripper Technology in BARC as senior scientist and Group Head. Dr. Roy is also serving as an adjunct Professor faculty of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), DAE since 2009.
