Biography
Chan Wai-Yee, obtained his B.Sc. (Hon. 1st Class) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1974 and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA in 1977. He served as tenured Assistant to Associate Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Oklahoma, USA from 1979-1989, and tenured Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA from 1989 to 2009. He was jointly appointed at the U.S. National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2001 and found the Laboratory of Clinical Genomics. He was later appointed as Head and Principal Investigator of the Section on Developmental Genomics, NICHD. In June 2009 he became Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine,the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, he is also the Director of the CUHK-Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health Joint Research Laboratory on Stem Cell and Regeneration and Co-Director of the Chinese Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine (CUHK-Jinan University). He holds Adjunct or Visiting Professorships at a number of universities in mainland China, including Zhejiang University, Jinan University, Shandong University, Shenzhen University and Chongqing Medical University. He is also a Distinguished Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Guangzhou, China.

Biography
Among major achievements, he discovered the missing DNA replication initiating factor responsible for the acquisition of the competence to replicate for embryonic development, postulated 30 yearsago by J.Gurdon (Lemaitre et al., Nature 2002). He set up a new concept in the DNA replication field, showing that the replication origin selection program for development, could be reprogrammed through a mitotic remodeling of the chromosome structure in mimicking nuclear transfer experiments (Lemaitre et al.,Cell 2005, Cuvier et al., 2008, Lemaitre and Méchali patent 2008).

Biography
Thai Nguyen received his PhD from UCSF (1984) under training of prominent molecular biologist John D. Baxter and later he was a post doctoral fellow in Prof. John Shine's laboratories at Australian National University (ANU). He assumed the Director position for glaucoma genetic research at UCSF (1994) and was a recipient of NEI fundings and private, industry agencies; his career was marked by the discovery of the first glaucoma gene, known as TIGR/MYOC (Science,JBC 1997-98). He broadened his interest into immunotherapy via association with SBI Biotech Inc., Japan (2005-2010) working on targeting cell specific receptors of interferon producing cell, pDC. He is among the first to promote biotechnologies in Vietnam and currently an active advocator for stem cell research and applications at the national laboratories and universities of the country. His scientific research and services were granted various awards by NEI (1998), the San Francisco City Hall (2006), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (1998), Pride of Vietnamese American- USA (2002).

Thai Nguyen specialties and experiences are in disease gene discoveries, structural and functional characterization of genes to understand disease mechanisms; Immunotherapy for cancers and autoimmune diseases via mAb targeting cell specific receptors of plasmatoid dendritic cell - pDC. Thai Nguyen, current focuses are in developing cell-based therapy research and stem cell treatments, taking into accounts of mechanisms, safety and feasibilities of clinical trials.

Parmjit Jat undertook his PhD at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now CRUK) and Imperial College London from 1978-1982. This was followed by Postdoctoral research at the MIT Centre for Cancer Research in the laboratory of Dr Philip Sharp. From 1987 to 2003 he was a Group Leader at the UCL Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. Since 2003, he has been a Professor of Molecular Cell Biology at the UCL Institute of Neurology and a member of the MRC Prion Unit.

Dr. Al Bahrani had graduated from Medical College of King Faisal University in Dammam on 1992 with MBBS degree and pursued his postgraduate training in Pathology (Hematology) at King Saud University-Riyadh and had completed his fellowship in 1999 after 5 years of training rotating between the major tertiary care hospitals in Riyadh region and Australian Blood Bank. He joined King Fahad Hofuf Hospital in 1999 as consultant Hematopathologist and subsequently as head of hematology and blood bank. He was promoted to be a Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Blood Bank. In October 2005, Dr. Al-Bahrani joined King Fahad Specialist Hospital-Dammam as consultant Hematopathologist and Blood Bank. Dr. Al Bahrani continues his postgraduate study in North America and in 2010 he had Clinical Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine and Stem Cell Banking from Mc Master University, Hamilton, Canada. Currently, Dr. Al Bahrani is consultant and Head of Stem Cell processing and cryopreservation Facility in addition to apheresis unit. He contributed in hospital JCI and departmental CAP accreditations and also led the team for AABB accreditation. Dr Al Bahrani established highly specialized Blood Bank and Transfusion Service and the only Stem Cell lab in MOH ( Saudi Arabia) in addition to many abstracts, presentations in international conferences and publications.

Dr. Nadia Benkirane is Research director and head of the “ Osteoarticular and Dental regenerative Nanomedicine” laboratory, at INSERM (French National Institute for Health and Medical Research),UMR 1109, Strasbourg, France. She was leader of “Active Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering” team INSERM 977. She received her Ph.D. from University Louis Pasteur, ULP, Strasbourg, France for the work on Development of pseudopeptides as synthetic vaccines. Dr. Jessel (Benkirane) then held a postdoctoral position in collaboration with the Institut Pasteur, Paris, France, working on Immunotherapy HIV, and another postdoctoral position on the application of modified peptides as vaccines against FMDV (Plum Island Animal Disease Center, ARS, USDA, Greenport, NY 11944-0848, USA). She joined the INSERM U595 in 2002 as a post-doc, and received the diploma to direct the research (HDR) in 2004. Dr. Jessel got the permanent position (CR1) in the INSERM 595 laboratory in 2004 and Research Director (DR2) position in the INSERM 977 and head of “active Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering team from 2009 until 2012). Currently Research Director (DR1) in the INSERM UMR 1109 (Osteoarticular and Dental Regenerative Nanomedicine" and heads the team. Dr. Jessel possesses expertise in diverse fields of molecular and cellular biology, immunochemistry, tissue engineering and biomedical engineering. In the last 10 years, she focused her research on the bio-functionalization of multilayered polyelectrolyte architectures with emphasis on the use of these architectures to induce specific cellular responses and gain control over cell proliferation and differentiation. Dr.Benkirane-Jessel have 138 publications (h index: 36) with peer-reviewed publications in high impact factor journals (Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA; Adv. Mater.; Adv. Funct. Mater.; Small; Nanoletters, Biomaterials, ACS Nano), 5 chapters reviews and 5 international patents, she is a regular referee for a number of scientific journals (Nature nanotechnology, Nature Materials, ACS nano, Biomaterials, Nanoletters…). She is under the contract (Interface INSERM/Clinic 2008-2013) and she got also “Prime d’ExcellenceScientifique” from the INSERM, 2010-2014 and the PEDR from the INSERM on 2016 for 4 years.

Dr. Eben Alsberg is a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University with a secondary appointment in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Alsberg is a leaderin the fields of tissue engineering, biomaterials andcontrolled bioactive factor delivery. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and 160 proceedings in these areas. His scientific contributions have resulted in 23 invention disclosures and 8 granted or pending patents. Dr. Alsberg’s research has been funded by federal and private entities such as the NIH, the DOD, the Ellison Medical Foundation, the AO Foundation, the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation, and the Coulter Foundation, and he reviews grants for many of them as well. He has been recipient of numerous research and teaching awards and honors that includeAmerican Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) Fellow, Lady Davis Fellowship from the Technion, Crain’s Cleveland Business Forty Under 40 Awardand the Case Presidential Research Initiative Award. He has provided extensive service and leadership to numerous organizations over the past decade, such as BMES, SFB, TERMIS and MRS. Dr. Alsberg is on the editorial board of 16 scientific journals including Tissue Engineering, JBMR-A, Biomedical Materials and Nature Scientific Reports, as well as ad-hoc reviewer for over 45 journals including Nature, Nature Materials,ACS Nano,PNAS and Advanced Materials. Dr. Alsberg has mentored and taught hundreds of students in biomedical engineering and has been invited to give seminars all over the world.
