Biography
Dr. Dr. Amira Awad Moawad is an international scientist, Associate Professor, and researcher specializing in microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, genomic epidemiology, zoonoses, and the One Health approach. She holds a PhD in Microbiology from Egypt, a Dr. Med. Vet. in Microbiology from the Free University of Berlin, Germany, a Master of Veterinary Science, and a Bachelor of Veterinary Medical Science. She is an approved and licensed veterinarian in Europe and serves as an Associate Professor and Scientific Researcher at the Institute for Bacterial Infections and Zoonoses, Friedrich Loeffler Institute, Germany. Her research focuses on bacterial pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, molecular characterization, whole genome sequencing, zoonotic diseases, and the impact of climate change on infectious diseases. She also contributes to Germany's national antimicrobial resistance strategy DART 2030 and annual antimicrobial resistance reports for the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Dr. Moawad has extensive expertise in molecular microbiology, pathogen detection, antimicrobial resistance gene analysis, biosafety, including BSL 3 laboratories, and the development of innovative diagnostic and alternative therapeutic approaches. She has collaborated on international research projects across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and North Africa. She has authored numerous peer reviewed publications, book chapters, and scientific reports on antimicrobial resistance, molecular epidemiology, zoonotic pathogens, and One Health. She has supervised PhD and postdoctoral researchers, delivered invited lectures at international conferences, and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for several scientific journals in microbiology, infectious diseases, diagnostics, and public health. In addition to her scientific career, Dr. Moawad serves as a German Lay Judge, reflecting her commitment to public service, ethics, and international collaboration in advancing global health and combating antimicrobial resistance.
