Biography

Dr. Kumba Yannah Karim is a Lecturer and Head of the Mutation Laboratory in the Department of Crop Science, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, Njala University, Sierra Leone. She is an Agronomist and Plant Breeding Expert with over seven years of experience in plant breeding, biotechnology, agronomy, and agricultural research. Her academic and research experience includes genetic characterization, plant genetic improvement, mutation breeding, genomics-assisted breeding, and the evaluation of crop varieties for improved productivity and resilience. She has contributed to research on cassava, cowpea, maize, and other important food crops, with a particular interest in applying genetic and genomic approaches to develop improved crop varieties. She has also published research articles and contributed to scholarly books in the fields of plant breeding, crop genetics, biotechnology, and agricultural sciences.
