Biography

Dr. Musa Decius Saffa is a Sierra Leonean agricultural scientist, lecturer, and researcher specializing in Crop Protection. He is affiliated with Njala University, Njala Campus, Sierra Leone, where he has been engaged in teaching and research since 2016. He holds a Certificate in Agriculture (General), Higher Diploma in Agronomy, BSc Honours in Crop Protection, and an MSc in Crop Protection, all from Njala University. He completed his PhD in Crop Protection at Njala University in 2025. Dr. Saffa's academic and professional work focuses primarily on agricultural pests and plant diseases, with an emphasis on their management for improved crop productivity, food security, and sustainable agricultural development. His research interests also encompass integrated pest management, plant disease management, crop improvement, and sustainable agricultural practices. He has participated in various capacity-building programs, workshops, seminars, and professional training initiatives related to agricultural transformation, pedagogy, gender and nutrition in agricultural extension, food and organic agriculture, and agricultural expertise development. He has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications and continues to contribute to agricultural research and higher education. His professional interests include teaching, scientific research, agricultural extension, and collaboration with agricultural organizations and institutions to promote sustainable crop production and strengthen agricultural development in Africa.
