Biography
Prof Vasco Ariston de Carvalho Azevedo is a Brazilian scientist and Professor Voluntary at the Federal University of Minas Gerais UFMG Brazil. He is recognized as a CNPq Researcher 1A, the highest scientific recognition in Brazil, and is a Fellow of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Prof Azevedo has more than 600 peer reviewed publications with over 22000 citations and an H index of 67. His research has significantly contributed to microbial genetics, bioinformatics, bacterial genomics, probiotics, vaccine development, and microbiome science. He has sequenced more than 300 bacterial genomes and was a co author of the landmark Bacillus subtilis complete genome sequence published in Nature in 1997. His research interests include probiotic lactic acid bacteria for infectious inflammatory autoimmune and cancer diseases, pathogen genomics, bacterial biotechnology, microbiome analysis, vaccine development, omics sciences, and One Health applications. Prof Azevedo has extensive international collaboration experience with institutions in France Germany USA Denmark Argentina Italy India and Pakistan. He currently leads several international projects focused on next generation probiotic strategies and recombinant vaccine vectors for infectious disease control.
