Biography
Dr Masoud Minaei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography of the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and undertaking research and teaching in the areas of Remote Sensing, GIS, Spatial Analysis, Cartography, MCDM and Applied GIS and Remote Sensing in different fields of Geographic studies. Dr Minaei also carries IGU Commission on Geographical Information Science, steering committee member, Director of the GISSRS: Lab in FUM, and director of Iranian association of GIS and Remote Sensing in Iran’s Northeast region. Dr Minaei has held a range of leadership and advisory positions in third party projects and municipalities commissions. He held several national and international events (conferences, workshops and so on). Dr Minaei’s professional work focuses increasingly on the applied GIS and Remote Sensing. As an experienced GIScience implementation professional, he works to integrate theory and practice, drawing on numerous perspectives and disciplines. He worked on research that spans urban and regional planning, Land use and land cover change and simulation, characterizing the impacts of climate variability/change and anthropogenic activities, ecosystem services, UAV/Drones, renewable energies, catchment management and river basin planning, VGI, natural and humaninduced disasters and hazards, tourism, drought, and so on. His extensive past projects and academic experience translates into a focus that teaching in GIS&RS programs needs to not only meet students’ needs and expectations, but also should also meet the expectations of external stakeholders. He advocates flexible delivery of postgraduate programs, and constantly promotes research and innovative teaching practices in the applications of geospatial to solve complex real world problems for the national interests. Dr Minaei received FUM Research excellence award and FUM Internationalization excellence award in 2020. He also received FUM Scientific authority award in 2018 to 2020. He has written or co-authored scientific papers, and technical reports and books. He supervised and advised numerous Post Doc, PhD and Master and Bachelor Students. Dr Minaei obtained a PhD in GIS&RS from the University of Vienna in 2015 and his MSc. in GIS&RS from the University of Tehran in 2009 and a Bachelor of Geography at the University of Tabriz in 2006. Dr Minaei is a member of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), GeoforAll, GeoBON, Iranian Association of Remote Sensing and GIS. He is editorial board of American Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering and Journal of Geography and Environmental Hazards.
