Biography

Zhefeng Guo is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UCLA in 2003. His research interest is focused on structural biology of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s and prion diseases. Using a variety of structural methods, with an emphasis on electron magnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, his group investigates the structures of amyloid-β oligomers and fibrils, γ-secretase, and yeast prion proteins. The goal of his research is to determine the structure of γ-secretase, and to understand the mechanism of protein aggregation involved in Alzheimer’s and prion diseases, eventually designing effective therapeutics for treatment.

Research Interest

Structural studies of amyloid-β aggregation in Alzheimer’s disease
Molecular mechanisms of prion propagation of yeast prion proteins
