Biography

Dr. Chen received his medical degree from the National University of Singapore, then completed his medical residency, general cardiology fellowship, and cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Following fellowship training, Dr. Chen was a faculty member at the National University of Singapore from 2006-2008. During this two-year period, he obtained an independent research grant from the National Medical Research Council of Singapore to identify novel genetic determinants of atrial fibrillation in an Asian population. This research grant supports ongoing phenotype assessment and genotyping in an Asian lone atrial firbillation cohort that will be useful for future genetic association studies. In December 2008, Dr. Chen joined the University of Minnesota faculty. His current research is focused on elucidating the determinants and impact of heart rhythm disorders, particularly atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. He receives grant support from the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health. He is the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
