Biography
After completing medical school at Duke University in 2000, I attended Johns Hopkins University for residency and fellowship. I completed the fellowship in spinal surgery under the guidance of Dr. Ziya Gokaslan in 2006 and returned to Duke University. I currently perform over 400 complex spine procedures each year including deformity and spinal column tumors. I am currently the medical director of the Adult Neurosurgery Spine Program at Duke University Medical Center and serve on a number of hospital committees. I have also lectured and taught both locally and nationally on a number of topics including spinal column metastases and disc arthroplasty.
Research Interest
My clinical interests are spinal surgery, spinal reconstructive surgery, scoliosis, spinal oncology, spinal cord tumors, and minimally invasive spinal surgery. My research interests include the surgical treatment of spinal column and spinal cord tumors, complex spinal reconstructions, as well as minimally invasive spine techniques. Spinal oncology interests include the treatment of chordomas, spinal cord astrocytomas and ependymomas, and spinal column metastases. In addition, laboratory research efforts are directed at developing new techniques for the treatment of cancers that affect the spinal cord and spinal column.
